    Summer Acceleration Academy 2025: June 30 - July 31, 2025

    What is Summer Acceleration Academy?

    • Summer Acceleration Academy is a supplemental academic summer program for current Kindergarten through Second grade èßäÊÓƵ at . The program is focused on providing support for unfinished learning for èßäÊÓƵ, and has the following audacious goal:
      • All èßäÊÓƵ who participate in Summer Acceleration Academy will experience knowledge building, skill development, and enriching and transformative experiences that will accelerate their growth in literacy and propel them toward achieving grade-level proficiency as measured by district-adopted assessments in the following èßäÊÓƵ year.
    • The student day includes:
      • Targeted literacy instruction based on student needs (Kindergarten & 1st grade èßäÊÓƵ in DLI classrooms will receive this instruction in Spanish);
      • Math instruction focused on skill development and building positive mathematical mindsets;
      • Hands-on project-based STEAM learning;
      • “SUN Block” enrichment activities and recess with SUN Agency partners; and
      • Social-Emotional Learning activities.
    • Class sizes are projected to be about 20 èßäÊÓƵ.
    • Breakfast and lunch will be provided for all participating èßäÊÓƵ.
    • Transportation will be provided in the morning and after lunch.
    • The program is offered at no cost to families.

    Who attends Summer Acceleration Academy?

    • SAA invites èßäÊÓƵ currently enrolled in Kindergarten through Second Grade at whose Winter literacy assessments indicate a need for additional support. 
    • The èßäÊÓƵ in current grades K-2 who will be invited to participate in Summer Acceleration Academy are èßäÊÓƵ who:
      • Fall below grade level in reading, based on Winter 2025 literacy assessments (MAP Fluency); or
      • Receive English Language Development (ELD) services and:
        • Are new to the country; or 
        • Whose most recent English Language Proficiency Assessment (ELPA) score demonstrates a need for reading support.
    • Accommodations will be made for èßäÊÓƵ who experience disabilities.
    • Enrollment for SAA is by invitation only.

    When is Summer Acceleration Academy?

    • The program will run Monday through Friday from June 30 - July 31, 2025 from 7:45am - 1:00pm (closed July 4th and August 1st).
    • Families will have the opportunity to opt into afternoon enrichment programming at no cost from 1pm - 5pm. Space will be limited and a commitment to attendance is required.

    Where will the program be offered?

    • We are using a Hub Site Model again this summer, clustering nearby èßäÊÓƵs together for programming.

    Why Summer Acceleration Academy?

    • Our supplemental Summer Acceleration program is an excellent way for èßäÊÓƵ to address unfinished learning by gaining proficiency in key grade-level skills, giving èßäÊÓƵ a strong start to the next èßäÊÓƵ year.
    • Invitations for Summer Acceleration Academy are based on mid-year assessments identifying èßäÊÓƵ who need support reaching grade level standards in reading during this supplemental summer program. 

    How do I enroll?

    Enrollment for SAA is by invitation only. 

    • March 10, 2025: The first round of invitations will be sent directly to the families of prioritized eligible èßäÊÓƵ.
    • April 1, 2025: The second round of invitations will be extended to families of eligible èßäÊÓƵ.
    • May 15, 2025: All enrollment will close. Enrollment at each hub site and grade level prior to this date as capacity is reached. 
    • May 22, 2025: Waitlisted families will receive an update on their enrollment status.

    If you believe that your student meets the criteria listed above, and you haven't received an invitation by mid-April, please reach out to your student's teacher.

    A commitment to daily attendance is a requirement for enrollment, as spaces are limited.

    What's next if you're already enrolled?

    • Your student's SAA teacher will be reaching out to introduce themselves and confirm transportation and other details during the week of June 23 - 27, 2025.
    • Transportation routes will be communicated mid-June at www.pps.net/bus. The transportation office can be reached at 503-916-6901.
    • Please make sure you have signed up for Remind. If you need assistance, please contact your student’s current èßäÊÓƵ.

    When will enrollment close?

    • Enrollment will close as capacity is reached at each grade level and hub site. A waitlist will be established.
    • Final Enrollment Deadline: May 15, 2025, at 4pm. 
    • Waitlist Notification: Families of waitlisted èßäÊÓƵ will receive updates by May 22, 2025.
