    Spanish Immersion Program

Spanish Immersion is an exciting and challenging program that serves èßäÊÓƵ from all backgrounds throughout èßäÊÓƵ.

Spanish Immersion èßäÊÓƵ experience the same curriculum as èßäÊÓƵ in English-only classes. The difference is that they spend part of their day learning in Spanish and part of the day learning in English.

Generally, kindergartners spend 90% of their class time learning in Spanish, and by middle grades the ratio is 50% Spanish and 50% English.

    • Kindergarten: 90% Spanish, 10% English
    • First Grade: 80% Spanish, 20% English
    • Second Grade: 70% Spanish, 30% English
    • Third Grade: 60% Spanish, 40% English
    • Fourth Grade: 50% Spanish, 50% English
    • Fifth to Eighth: 50% Spanish, 50% English

    How to Apply

More than 1,800 èßäÊÓƵ in grades K-12 are enrolled in 14 programs across the district. All èßäÊÓƵ must apply for entry through the annual PPS lottery. Each Spanish Immersion program is co-located with a neighborhood èßäÊÓƵ, and reserves some spaces for èßäÊÓƵ who live in that èßäÊÓƵ’s attendance zone.

A list of spaces by grade, neighborhood and language is available during the lottery cycle at every program and through the Enrollment & Transfer Center. For grades 2 and above, space is open only to replace èßäÊÓƵ who have exited the program, and a language proficiency test is required.
